Specialty Coffee Roasters: The Secret Behind a Personalised Cup

A cup of coffee can destress you better than working out in the Gym. Coffee is ranked number one when it comes to the most loved beverages across the globe. It keeps your dopamine levels high, which in turn keeps you charged for the entire day.

All have different taste buds, and when it comes to coffee, we want a personalised experience, with original taste, flavour, and aroma intact.

Every coffee cup is a power-packed stimulant for a coffee lover. A simple cup of coffee brewed using specialty coffee roasters may boost your energy and treat your taste buds. Roasting is the core strategy for getting an aromatic bean. There are three levels of roasting, depending on the customer’s preferred coffee choice. The roasting process is responsible for bringing out the various aromas and profiles of coffee we know and love. It transforms a raw green coffee cherry into an aromatic brown bean. Specialty coffee roasters are used by coffee outlets in Texas to roast the coffee bean without changing its original taste. These roasters make the roasting process more engaging and authentic.

From cherry to bean: The Story of your favourite brew

Coffee fruit grows on coffee plants, also called bushes. The coffee cherries, when fully ripe, are harvested to be processed into the powdered coffee we usually use. The coffee processing involves precise cherry collection from the plantations. These cherries are washed and cleaned to remove any inferior cherries. After complete cleaning, the outer layer as well as the pulp of the cherry are removed. Then these cherries are dried up completely. There are three coffee drying methods used by coffee processors in coffee roasting industries nowadays, namely: dry, wet, and semi-washed.

In the first method used, the coffee cherries are spread out in single layers and left to dry in the open air and sun for 2-3 weeks. This process is also called the dry process, as it directly involves natural drying sources. Once the beans are completely free from moisture, they are fed into an automated roasting machine.

In the wet process, the coffee beans are fermented inside massive water tanks for 12–48 hours. This fermentation process involves the removal of the pulp from the seed and thorough washing of the seed to get the coffee bean. This bean is further dried to remove any moisture from the seed.

Types of Roasting Methods used by Speciality Coffee Roasters:

Specialty coffee roasters craft the signature aromatic beans and turn them into your desired brew. There are the following types of roasting used in the process:

Light Roast: This roasting method is suitable for coffee enthusiasts who enjoy drinking original coffee with little acidity and more sweetness. It retains most of the original flavours and the resulting coffee tastes more fruity, floral, sweet and less bitter.

Medium Roast: If you desire a coffee cup with a balanced flavour lying between the original green coffee beans and dark roasted beans, this roast is for you. Medium roast balances between light roast and dark roast as both differ in acidity levels. The resulting brew from medium roasting has a chocolaty, nutty, and caramelised flavour with a balance between bitter and sweet spectrum.

Dark Roast: If you feel more energised with a strong coffee cup and only a dark cup of coffee can save your day, this roast is only for you. Specialty coffee roasters installed in the coffee shops and outlets use the Dark roasting method to provide an intense coffee flavour. In Dark roasting, the coffee bean is roasted for a longer duration. This reduces the acidity of the bean and gives it a deep brown and black colour with an oily and glossy surface. After the dark roasting process, the resulting coffee tastes smoky and carries a bittersweet flavour.
